Leela Sharon Aheer was born in Edmonton. Her father is a noted chemical engineer specializing in gas processing and her mother is a musician. She moved to an acreage in Chestermere at age 8 and with the exception of a short stint living in Calgary and time away at school she has called Chestermere home ever since.
Leela studied political science at the University of Calgary and went on to earn a degree in Music at the University of Manitoba. Prior to being elected Leela had an award winning music studio teaching voice and is a member of Minerva, a nationally released vocal trio. She has been married for 23 years to her husband Malkeet and has two sons. Leela and her husband own a car wash in Chestermere and have extensive business experience. She has demonstrated her commitment to local, accessible health care by helping to build the Chestermere Health Centre.
Awarded “2013 Volunteer Of The Year” in Chestermere, she believes volunteerism is the backbone of a strong and caring community. Leela is a strong advocate for special needs children, and believes that these very ABLE people have much to offer us. Leela was elected under the Wildrose banner in 2015 and
has served as Shadow Minister of Energy, Education, and Status Of Women. With the advent of the United Conservative Party she holds the position of Deputy Leader and Shadow Minister of Children’s Services and Status Of Women.
